How to read the chart

Each row is the attack type and each column is the type of the Pokémon receiving it. A 2 means super effective (double damage), a ½ means not very effective (half) and a 0 means no effect. Empty cells are normal damage.

Dual types and multipliers

Most Pokémon have one or two types. When they have two, the effects multiply: two weaknesses give x4, a weakness and a resistance cancel out (x1), two resistances give x¼ and an immunity brings it to x0 no matter the other type.

Also, if a Pokémon uses an attack of one of its own types it gets a 50% damage bonus (STAB). Combining types and attacks is the basis of any strategy.

Frequently asked questions

How many types are there in Pokémon?
There are 18 types: Normal, Fire, Water, Electric, Grass, Ice, Fighting, Poison, Ground, Flying, Psychic, Bug, Rock, Ghost, Dragon, Dark, Steel and Fairy.
What does super effective mean?
It means the attack does double damage (x2). If the defender has two types and both are weak, the damage is multiplied by four (x4).
Which types take no damage from others?
Some types are immune to others: for example, Ghost types take no damage from Normal or Fighting attacks, and Ground types take no damage from Electric attacks.
How do dual types work?
The effects of each type are multiplied. An advantage (x2) and a resistance (x0.5) cancel out and leave normal damage.
